TURN IT OVER

If there is a worry, turn it over to God in prayer. The heart and soul will be enriched.

TOUCHING THE HEART

In prayer, reach out to touch the heart of our Lord. Feel His emotional warmth for you. It is filled with gentle love, care, mercy, forgiveness, grace, wisdom, strength, glory and praise!

PRACTICE WILL MAKE IT DEEP

One way to want more prayer in your life is to pray for it. As with everything in life, it does take practice. The more devotion, the easier it will become. Take time for silence during prayer, as God will want to respond. Listen in sincerity. Your faith will deepen, as will your love for God.

THE TWO OF US

What a close friend our shadow is. It is nearby as we look out to the beyond and becomes our constant companion as we move in motion. In prayer, its hands raise to the heavens with ours the surrounding silence leaving peace and serenity upon the soul. The togetherness between the two of us strengthens our spirits, giving us dauntless courage to meet the unexpected in each day.

A HELPING HAND

Strong-willed minds are hard to change. With prayer, love, understanding, kindness and compassion, it can happen, all done with a pleasant smile. God will be there to offer a helping hand!

NO MATTER THE THOUGHT

Happy thoughts. Sad thoughts. Angry ones, confused ones. God hears them all. He is there always, not only while in prayer.

MAKING ROOM

Instead of having a worry consume us, make room for prayer take over. It will bring much more nourishment to the body, allowing God to help carry our burdens, warm our soul with His Spirit and provide for the Lord’s strength to nurture us to withstand whatever is given to us. ~Marie T. Morrison~

GOSH, WHICH PATH SHOULD I TAKE

Going off the straight and narrow path makes one dizzy. Roads wtih many twists & turns will require prayer and asking God to help us see the way back. The road may be rocky at times, but it doesn't mean we give up, as God is there to pull us up, to move on. It might be the hardest path we have ever taken. At the end, we will have learned widsom, maturity beyond our years and experiences we had never dreamed up. Our character has blossomed into a beautiful flower, one with a strong root, not ready to wither, ready to withold its beauty, because it has been through everything!

Go out for a walk this week and find that flower. See how solid it is planted into the earth. Admire it, reflect upon it, decide how you will begin to lead your life, holding strong to your roots, not straying far from your path, always listening to the teachings of God, . ~Marie T. Morrison~

AS ONE

What can bring about togetherness? A friendship can. Laughter can. Love can bring one or more together. Marriage does. Gathering for a funeral does, to share tears and memories. Writing a letter to tell a story or recall a treasured moment are lovely moments of togetherness. Above all, having hope, having faith, never giving up and praying to God brings everyone together, no matter where they are in the world, no matter the religion, the disability, the level of wealth. We are one, all seeking the same thing. Together.

LAUGHING TIMES

Visiting and laughing with those surrounding us, having no limit on the time together, can do wonders for the spirit and soul. A silent prayer to God will have the angels of heaven join in song, their crystal clear voices seen through the sparkling gems in the dark of night, each star holding a beautiful memory.

PLEASING AND FINDING

At times, we try to constantly please someone, to no avail.
Stress increases, wondering what we should do next to make this person like us.
Sadly, it is time to let go, going back to tending to your own self.
Say a prayer, that at some point, this person will find the needed Spirituality to have a good life.
It is something we can't find for others. Be there for them once they do find God's wonders.

COMPASSION

Having compassion for those bringing us heartache is a tall order. Our Lord teaches us we must. It does not mean we include them in all that we do, but to say a silent prayer for those causing pain. Pray that an understanding of wronged actions will help in letting go of the anguish. Recall, in prayer, how God gave each of us a soul. Some souls are troubled. We ask for God’s guidance to bring some tenderness to their embattled spirits. Only then will the healing begin.

IMPATIENCE

Given an unpleasant situation, impatience is likely to erupt, increasing stress. Saying a prayer to God, to have the patience to get through the bitterness and gracefully work through the problem, will nurture the mind, body and soul. Composure remains intact, resulting in tranquility. While others struggle, prayers have sent a placid state of mind.

Wipe Away The Tears

Something hard to realize is that we cannot control everything in life. Trying to fight to make it so will not work. Prayer is what helps. God can fill the soul with solace. He will help wipe away the tears, whispering words of encouragement. As we let go, tranquility replaces the storm.

AT LONG LAST

Greetings! At long last, I am back to my writing. It has been quite awhile since I felt well enough to write. I went in to get medical tests done, only to come out worse than before the tests. Apparently, the tests triggered something else in the body, causing additional problems.

At times, I have felt so ill that I began to wonder if I would ever have a quality of life again. Those fleeting thoughts only lasted seconds, as I knew my life was much better than that of others. I had food to eat, water to drink, a roof over my head and a dear family to care for me. I also felt that my suffering was nothing compared to that of our Lord Jesus. In fact, I became closer to Jesus because of all the additional problems.

It is easy to take for granted what each of our days brings us. We tend to be busy from the moment we open our eyes and get out of bed each day. There is the morning rush, getting out the door, not wanting to be late for our destinations. Around us, everyone else is also running, usually with a sense of worry. “Will there be much traffic? Will I find a parking place? I hope I can get a seat and not have to stand during the ride. Why do I have to attend that meeting? It is always such a waste of time.”

Nowhere, in these conversations with ourselves, or with another person, is there a thought for God. We are just too busy. Our days remain busy, taking care of this need and that, forgetting the need to say a prayer, thanking our Lord for another day. At the end of the day, there is again the traffic to deal with on the way home, the meals to fix, the family activities to attend, the helping with a child's homework, and the house to clean. There is the television show to watch, so everything has to be complete by then. Once again, there is not the time to think about a prayer, praising Jesus for getting through one more day.

It is a vicious cycle, day in and day out. It is not until our health changes, and we cannot keep up with our hectic lives, do we sit back, remembering whom it is that lets us have a family, gives us beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and makes fertile ground so we may have food on the table.

Though I continue to wear out easily, I am adjusting to my new quality of life. I continue to pray for others listed in my prayer journal, aware we are never alone as we carry our crosses. Overcoming our challenges is a motive of God’s, teaching us to become stronger in our faith. It is faith that gives us hope. Once we have hope, we will believe God is right there with us, as we climb through the obstacles to reach our goals. If we fall, God will help us rise and persevere, no matter the journey. Thank you, dear Lord, for always being there.

UNEXPECTED

In the musical performed by my daughter's theater class this weekend, there was a humorous line which has stayed with me. One cast member said it was an 'unexpected' surprise, the other cast member asked if there was really any other kind of surprise. It set all of us laughing. In Stephen King's book “On Writing,” these are the things we need to learn about. If it is a surprise, it is of course unexpected!

There is much in life which is unexpected. There can be an untimely death, an undiagnosed illness, or coming across a friend from long ago, sitting right across you at the cafe. The unexpected can also bring about new friends, within the workplace, at a Church committee meeting, or the sitting across from someone at that same cafe.

We should never turn our head when the unexpected happens. Rather, we should accept it with God's redeeming grace. I remember sitting across from a stranger at cafe, many years ago. She was alone, with a little one, about the same size as our little one, both us having the baby carrier sitting upon the tables We asked her to join us. Exchanging a discourse on what each of us did for a living, it came out that someone at her husband's work, the putting together of a major film, was looking for a private tutor during the works of putting together the film. Phone numbers were exchanged, and within days, I was tutoring two children during the duration of the filming of this film. It was a fun experience, though I kept wishing it would be Robert Redford picking up the children at my door, rather than their nanny.

I had hoped, it would lead to more tutoring, but it did not happen. I had not gone out to assert myself to gather new clients. How would anyone know about me if I didn't let them know I was here, expressing my beliefs in how I, as a teacher could educate their child while they were on set!

It is the same today; how is anyone going to know about the good Lord's Grace and His Spirit, to be shared among others, if we keep silent? We need to live our lives in a way where we are never too distant, now saying what we truly believe in. We must feel the power of Christ as we go out to reach others. We are not to ignore the filthy guy asleep on the sidewalk, the person asking for help with his car, nor the person attending to every day needs. These people can be the ones to turn our lives around, just as Abraham did in the Old Testament, saying there is only one God, and this is the God to be worshiped. God is the one sending others to be part of us, recalling our own rule under Him; to always kneel, washing of the feet of our brethren, not looking at the conditions of our brother or sister.

Just as I had hoped for other movie clientèle to come visit me, we hope others will go find God. In either instance, it does not happen by itself. I needed to bring myself to the film office, to say I was there, ready to serve. In the same way, we need to bring ourselves and others to God, ready to serve Him at all costs. At times, we may feel this is impossible. It is then we must remember the Scripture of Matthew 20:17, where we read our re you God saying, 'I assure you that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can see to this hill, “Go from here to there!” and it will go. DO have the faith. It is what keeps each of us moving!

Reflect upon your love for God. Pray, meditate. Ask Him how you can you do everything, serving Him at all possible times. May you become closer to our dear Lord as you open the shuttered windows, inviting Him in, telling Him you will do all possible to have a better life, blessed with His Grace!

BUSY, BUSY

I have not been keeping up with my writing. This is not good, as it indicates I am not growing spiritually. God has not been able to fill me with His words because I have not taken the time to listen to Him. I have put other things first. Reflecting on what I have been doing, other than my normal routine, leaves my mind blank. It indicates I have put trivial things before praying with God, so trivial I do not even remember what they were.
It is quite easy to get too involved with the mundane executions of daily life. Sleeping an extra hour, reading the two newspapers and solving the daily puzzles as I sip my tea, tending to the dogs and picking up the house are only a few activities on how I fill my day.I am embarrassed to say how long I may stay on the computer, or trying to fix a problem this laptop gives me. One daughter wants me only to text message her from my cell, wasting another bit of time. Why do I give in? Because no matter how much I try to call instead, she will not pick up the phone. I toss it back and forth, asking myself, which will take the least amount of time, to text or to keep trying to call her. Since this is her only bit of rebellion as a teenager, I go along.
Back to what I was saying, on not having my time with God. I do talk about God a lot, conducting classes five days a week, sometimes twice a day. I make my lesson plans, being well prepared. However, this still is not giving me the special time God and I need together, just the two of us. I have managed to put Him on the back burner. Prayer time while I do my routine at the pool has been eliminated. This is hurting God in two ways; I am not having my talk time with Him and I am not taking care of the body He has given me. I preach to others about obeying the Two Great Commandments of loving God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind, and loving my neighbor as myself. He has blessed me with a beautiful spirit, intertwined with His, yet I am not nourishing it, tending to it so I may continue to grow in my love for Him. I have managed to place many obstacles in the path, preventing His love and kindness to prosper within my soul.
I must return to practicing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, those of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control. It is okay to quit rushing to meet my self-made expectations. Maybe I will be able to cross everything off on my list of things to do, but what good is it if I have made no time for God? He is part of me in everything I do, yet I do not pause to praise Him and His mighty works. A dark void will overpower me if I continue to live my life this way. Maybe this has already happened to people I pass on the street, why they are not smiling and their eyes are sad.
Prayer needs to be my focal point, forgetting about those things on my list that I want to check off. Instead, 'pray' should be written at the top, middle and end of my list! Recently, I came across a “Three Minute Prayer,” by Father Lukefahr. In the first minute,he says to think about a wonderful blessing you have received in the past 24 hours. Thank God for this blessing. In the second minute, think about a significant failing you had in the past 24 hours. Ask Jesus to forgive you. In the third minute, think about a challenge you are to meet in the next 24 hours, praying to the Holy Spirit to help and guide you as you accept the challenge. As for my challenge,I ask the Holy Spirit to help me erase the obstacles I have placed on the path to prayer. Let Him guide me, as I pray to Jesus for forgiveness, not making God my priority. May I put one foot in front of the other, taking small steps, allowing me to feel His presence as I open up the door to let Him in.

TEA

I love to sip a cup of tea. It is most relaxing. I start my day with a cup of Irish Breakfast tea, using loose tea placed in a small , empty tea bag, made for such a purpose. Mid-morning, I might go for the Earl Grey tea, finding it soothing as I work on a hobby, read or plan a lesson. It can raise my spirits, leaving me calm and good -natured, getting my creative juices flowing.
Remaining in high spirits, it is time to tackle the laundry, clean up the kitchen and perform other mundane household duties. I usually have the house in silence as I work, taking this time to say prayers for those going through rough times and to have my conversations with God. My conversations are as if I was talking to my best friend, which in a way, I am! I may be expressing gratitude for the previous day’s activities, or telling Him how I will need to come up with the right words to use while teaching a class for my Church.
Time goes quickly by. After my lunch, I may finish it off with a cup of red bush tea. This gives me energy to start my afternoon plans. I will likely be venturing out to the Church, to facilitate an adult group of students, sharing what I have learned with them. Often, I bring my thermos cup of brown rice tea with me, to keep my voice from getting hoarse, while at the same time, giving me a bit of nourishment to remain at my high level of excitement as I teach.
The rest of the day zooms by. It may consist of working with one more religious ed. student out of my home, a child unable to make it to Church classes. I offer a cup of peppermint tea to my young lady, while I have apple cinnamon tea. We wrap our hands around our mugs, sipping them as we discuss together different Bible stories, curled up on the couch, facing one another as we converse.
Tea is something I would offer to all my groups of students while I was still teaching full time. They loved it, sipping green tea with honey as I taught. Some had never seen a teabag before, ripping it open to pour into their cups. They quickly learned from their peers how to use the teabag properly. These same young people came to visit me, years after they were in my class, asking for a cup of tea while we visited. What a nice way to reconnect, making a pause in a busy life, to sit and enjoy the company of another.
We tend to forget about the simple things in life, such as enjoying that cup of tea. God wants us to nourish our bodies and our souls, rather than rushing around so. It does not take long to enjoy a cup, but it can bring a long-lasting effect upon one. Others feel the calmness, responding in the same way, letting the tenseness leave the shoulders and neck. This calmness can be passed on to the next individual, and so forth. It is the way God’s world should be, rather than getting angry because of the slow driver in front of us, or the person who takes forever to write a check and post it in the ledger before allowing us to reach the clerk at the counter. Even picturing that cup of tea in a time of tenseness can let the anxiety dissipate.
Spoil yourself. It is actually okay! Go find a favorite mug and purchase some fun flavors of tea. Grab a relaxing book, take off the shoes, cozy up on the couch, sip your tea and enjoy the moment! It is just what God has ordered!

Love and a Phone Call

I have my candle lit and soothing music on.  It is music which seems to affect my spirit and my Spirit. My frame of mind is one which is calling out to God, thanking Him for this peaceful moment.  I often try to set the mood for my prayer and meditation time by having my candle and music close by. It will shut off the rest of the world, giving time only to myself and my God.
Today, my three children, ages 23, 21 and 17 have called me frequently. Some days, I may not hear from the two older ones, who live away from home.  I do not want to interfere with their lives, having 'Mom' check on them.  They know this and appreciate this. When I do get a call, it might a quick one to just say they are thinking of their Dad and I and that they love us.  Other times, like today, they need advice, suggestions, and of course, money! My 17 year old is also out there today, doing errands with friends, calling to ask for an address or where should they look for this item or that. I am pleased they feel comfortable to call, telling or asking me anything and everything.
At the end of each call, we always say "I love you." Never to we fail. It doesn't matter how simple the call is, it still ends in "I love you."
This is how it is with God and me. I can talk to him about anything and everything. I can ask Him for advice and for directions on how to get back on the right path. At the end of our conversation, I always say "I love you!" to Him. I know He smiling back at me, telling me He loves me too!
